Michael Macias, MD Founder

Michael Macias is the founder and lead consultant for Bread & Butter Ultrasound. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, where he also completed his residency in Emergency Medicine. After residency, he completed an ultrasound fellowship at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. Dr. Macias currently practices at both Temecula Valley Hospital and the University of California, San Diego. He also serves as the Systems Clinical Ultrasound Director for a California-based group, where he manages clinical ultrasound programs at 22 different hospitals. Dr. Macias is also an avid digital educator and has created multiple free open access medical education (FOAMed) sites, including EM Curious, the NUEM Blog, UCSD Ultrasound, and The POCUS Atlas. He shared the Innovation Award in 2018 from the ACEP Emergency Ultrasound Section for his work on The POCUS Atlas. Outside of digital education, Dr. Macias has a strong interest in medical design, regional anesthesia, and bedside echocardiography.

Matthew Riscinti, MD Clinical Educator & Consultant

Incoming Assistant Ultrasound Fellowship Director at Denver Health in Denver, Colorado. He is co-founder of The POCUS Atlas and The Evidence Atlas and has special interests in Deep Learning augmentation of Ultrasound Education, Teleguidance, and technologic innovations in Ultrasound Education. He recently shared the ACEP Innovation in Ultrasound Education Award and Society of Clinical Ultrasound Fellows "Newbie Award."

Anthony Medak, MD Clinical Educator & Consultant

Anthony Medak is a clinical educator and consultant for Bread & Butter Ultrasound. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from UCSF followed by residency in Emergency Medicine at Highland. After residency, he completed a fellowship in Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine at UCSD. He is a self taught point of care ultrasound guru! He is currently a Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of California, San Diego where he has been faculty since he completed his fellowship. His career interests include point-of-care ultrasound, Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine, and all facets of medical education. He has been recognized with awards for his excellence in teaching on numerous occasions by the Emergency Medicine residents as well as the medical students at UC San Diego. He also serves as Co-Director of the Ultrasound Curriculum for the UC San Diego School of Medicine.
